We understand: We know that getting these results can change the course of your life. We understand how frustrating it is not to be able to work in your profession, and we have helped many professionals work in their field, whether you need to sit the ISLPR,  IELTS or OET test in Melbourne, Victoria, Sydney, NSW, or Brisbane, Queensland, or other states in Australia. We offer ISLPR, IELTS and OET lessons online or face-to-face on request, so you can study wherever you are and whenever you want.

The ISLPR Test Format

About: The ISLPR test is a great academic English test as it's personalized to your job and so easier to prepare for. It's a 2-hour test with just you and the examiner in the room, and they will test your English level and skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing in relation to your job and the area you work in, so if you are a secondary teacher, primary school teacher or early childhood education instructor, the test material will be related to this.

ISLPR Speaking Test:: an interview discussing your professional experience- so about your work or job

ISLPR Listening Test: a few audios either related to general topics or to your professional field with summarising and comprehension questions :

ISLPR Reading Test: reading and summarising and answering questions about 2 texts: one more general topic and one related to your field of work. Also, there will be a passage to read aloud

ISLPR Writing Test: 2 tasks - one is a shorter task in the form of an email or message and the other is more in the style of an essay or article. Both are related to your specific job role and work field.

ISLPR Scoring: ISLPR is scored on a scale of 0-5, with 5 being native-speaker proficiency. For example, IELTS 5.5-6 would be ISLPR 2+; IELTS 6-6.5 would be ISLPR 3, IELTS 6.5- 7 would be ISLPR 3+ and IELTS 7.5-8 would be 4 in ISLPR.

Where can I sit the ISLPR test and can I do it online? The ISLPR test centres in Australia are located in Brisbane, Queensland and Melbourne, Victoria. If you are in Adelaide, Sydney or another part of Australia, you can request a tester come to your city, or travel to Victoria or Brisbane yourself to take the test. In order to do the ISLPR test online, you need to confirm with your educational institution, employer, or other organization to ensure they accept online test results. Once you have their acceptance, you can proceed with the online test.

ISLPR Test: and ISLPR Writing Samples

ISLPR Test Writing Samples: One great strength of the ISLPR test is that it checks to see whether you have the English writing skills to perform effectively in a range of education-based scenarios. This involves the development of writing skills beyond just getting the "grammar" right! And that is where our ISLPR tutors can give you great insight and practice with our private test preparation classes, including analysis of your ISLPR writing samples, you can feel confident that you are giving yourself the best possible chance to get the score you need!

ISLPR versus IELTS:

ISLPR Test Format compared to the IELTS Test Format:

  • Exam length: ISLPR takes 2 hours and is one-to-one; IELTS is a 3-hour test in an exam room with others, plus around 15 minutes fir the speaking section, one-to-one with an examiner
  • Exam focus: ISLPR is directly related to your work area whereas IELTS can be on a broad range of academic topics, and ISLPR has emphasis on cultural understanding regarding issues to do with living and working in Australia while IELTS does not
  • What's Different about the ISLPR Test. This test is similar to IELTS in that it does test all four skills; however, the tasks are less predictable and are designed for each individual candidate’s specialization, so students cannot just prepare according to an imagined "formula"; they must demonstrate the appropriate levels of English language skills required for their role as a teacher - usually 4444 for Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing.
  • Scoring: For teacher registration in Australia a score of 7 for reading and writing and 8 for speaking and listening is required; for the ISLPR test you need 4-4-4-4 in each section for teacher registration.
  • Retaking one section of the test: one section only of the test: For ISLPR  you can retake 1 or 2 sections of the test if you missed out on getting your needed score in all 4 sections and for IELTS, you can retake one section only.
  • *Queensland teachers please note: if you live in Queensland, they officially do not allow you to retake one section of the ISLPR test for teacher registration, however, you can request this when you fill in your application for teacher registration and they will consider this: https://www.qct.edu.au/registration/application-process.

ISLPR Preparation with ISLPR Expert, Annette

As a teacher, I am a good listener and encourage students to ask questions for clarification. I know what is required to get these grades on the ISLPR test, and with my Masters in Linguistics, I have an excellent understanding of the grammatical problems which can hinder otherwise excellent teachers from getting their registration. I am aware that students have different styles of learning, and I have the flexibility to adapt my lessons to suit the way you learn. I also include fun activities such as vocabulary quizzes and guessing games in my planning.
